Screenings
& Assessments
Common and undetected difficulties with vision, hearing, language
and motor skills can impact a child's health and academic progress.
The key to successful remediation is early detection and intervention.

● On-Campus Screenings
Helping children reach their full potential.
A developmental screen is a series of standard, quick, and non-invasive tests. These help detect conditions that may impact a child’s social, emotional, cognitive, speech, language, academic, and physical development.
Our therapists conduct a variety of developmental screenings on campus through school-wide programs and by referral to ensure all students receive the support they need for success.
Program
Each screen is conducted by a specialist relevant to the test, all with dual local and international accreditation.
- Hearing ScreeningA hearing screening detects children who may have temporary or permanent hearing issues that can impact social, emotional, speech, language, and academic development. Our screening consists of pure tone audiometry measring the ability to hear sounds at normal thresholds, and tympanometry which detects middle ear problems like fluid, infection, or eardrum perforations.
- Denver Developmental Screening TestThe Denver Developmental Screening Test (DDST) identifies developmental delays in children up to 6 years old. The screening covers the following areas of development: Gross motor skills, fine motor skills, language ability, and personal-social skills.
- Vision ScreeningA vision screening identifies children who may have eye conditions and vision problems that directly impacts their ability to achieve academically, socialize, and enjoy extracurricular activities. By measuring visual acuity (clarity, or seeing 20/20) and assessing binocular vision (eye-brain) function, a vision screen covers all the components of healthy vision such as visual pathway integrity and visual efficiency.
- Postural & Gait ScreeningThis screening detects musculoskeletal imbalances, postural deviations, and movement irregularities that may impact a child’s physical development, balance, coordination, and overall well-being. It evaluates standing posture, spinal alignment, weight distribution, foot placement, stride length, and balance. This helps identify muscular imbalances, scoliosis indicators, or improper body positioning, as well as compensatory movements that may indicate muscle weakness or joint instability.
- Dyslexia & Literacy ScreeningThis screening evaluates a child's reading and comprehension skills. It is available for children in Year 1-9/ K-Grade 8, allowing educators, parents, and specialists to identify students who may require additional support and intervention in their literacy development. By detecting potential difficulties early, literacy screening helps prevent minor challenges from becoming significant barriers to academic success.

"I’ve been working with Sunny Start for a few years
and have found the team to be organized, communicative,
and flexible. I’ve recommended Sunny Start to teachers
at other schools for this very reason."

"We’re lucky to be able to work with someone as skilled
and empathetic as Dao. In Thailand, it’s unfortunately quite difficult
to find a speech-language pathologist with the same level of
experience as well as genuine compassion."

Our child sees another therapist at a different learning center
and we’ve found Sunny Start to be very collaborative. They also make therapy fun!"

● Standardized Assessments
Identify your child's strengths and needs.
You may have been referred here by your child’s teacher, pediatrician, or a fellow parent. Standardized or formal assessments are research-based tools that provide reliable insights to your child’s development.
These assessments help highlight your child’s strengths, as well as identify specific areas of need, guide diagnosis, establish a baseline for skills, and shape a personalized support plan. Understanding their abilities early allows us to support their development in the best possible way, setting them up for long-term success.

Screenings are brief tests to identify children who may need further evaluation for developmental concerns. We offer a range of screens including: hearing screens, vision screens, gait/posture screens, and developmental screens.
Screenings are offered at an affordable rate to ensure accessibility. Currently, each screen costs 900 baht or 3,600 baht for all four.
Each type of screening takes 15-30 minutes, depending on the child’s age and needs. For school-wide screenings, we typically screen 80 students in one day during regular school hours.
A screening is a quick check to identify potential concerns, while an assessment is a detailed evaluation to determine specific needs and create a therapy plan. A specific screening takes ~20 minutes, while an assessment takes between 2-8+ hours of direct contact with the child.
